MEC Lehari saddened by yet another femicide case

The North West Community Safety and Transport Management MEC Sello Lehari is disheartened by another brutal murder of a young woman..

A 40-year-old man is to appear at the Bafokeng Magistrates’ Court in Tlhabane tomorrow, January 07, 2020 for alleged kidnapping, rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl.

“As a nation we must really do all we could to end gender based violence in all its forms. And we can if we are determined enough”, said MEC Lehari.

The girl and her 18 year old friend were allegedly seen with the suspect on Christmas Eve at a local tavern in Chaneng village outside Phokeng. The suspect is alleged to have left with the pair and repeatedly raped them. The case was then opened for investigation.

The suspect who was still illusive is alleged to have gone to the same tavern on New Year’s Eve and left with the same 15-year-old girl. He is alleged to have raped the girl again and the teenager was never seen since.

Thanks to the assistance from members of the community, police apprehended the suspect on New Year’s Day for raping two women on Christmas Eve.

“The law must take its course and harshest punishment must be meted to the murderer of that young woman. We cannot continue to say the same things all the time and yet heinous crime against women doesn’t subside”, said exasperated Lehari.

The decomposed body of the 15-year-old girl was found by the investigating officers on Sunday, January 05, 2020.

MEC Lehari has lauded the investigating police officers for their tenacity and stellar work in not only finding the body of the missing girl but for also arresting the suspect. He also appealed to the community to help end all kinds of criminality by reporting to the law enforcement officers.
